Arrival Title
Inspired by the inky imagery of the alien language of the 2016 film Arrival, this title sequence pairs mechanical typography with the elegant and organic form of ink moving through water, illustrating the film’s themes of understanding differences and learning how to communicate. Soft blur and subtle typography motion is underscored by an eerie, dramatic tune from the movie’s original score, making this sequence the perfect introduction to this cerebral science fiction drama.

Extensive research on the movie and its themes illuminated key visual and thematic motifs that sparked the idea of pairing geometric type with organic image. All video footage is original and shot with a minimal DIY set-up that proved to be one of the less challenging aspects of this project.
