Boom Book
This French-fold book was bound by hand and is a culmination of weeks of research on Dutch graphic designer and Queen of Books, Irma Boom. Three separately-bound sections come packaged in a red book sleeve and tell Boom’s story through a brief biography, a deep dive into selected works, and a gallery showcasing her range.

Section II, the largest of the sections, discusses her most important works in chronological order, and lets the reader decide what kind of content they’d like to browse: to simply view photography of the works, turn the book upside down; to read key thoughts on the works, keep the book right side up; and to read detailed descriptions and breakdowns of each work, turn the book sideways.
Continuous french-fold pages and the changing orientation of images and copy made this a project that was somewhat difficult to visualize digitally, resulting in an extensive series of prototypes. These prototypes helped not only with typos and layout mistakes, but were also an exercise in bookbinding and tested the overall physicality and interactivity of the book from an early stage through to the final iteration.
