Collaborative Maze Game


Inspired by BrainNet and studies on direct brain-to-brain collaboration, this is a simple collaborative game where two players must work together to solve a maze.

While one player is blindfolded and wearing headphones in the actual maze, the second player receives a live video feed of the first player’s steps and location in the maze. With this information, the second player directs their partner through the use of sound: when directed to turn right, they hear a sound in their right ear; to turn left, in their left ear; and to go straight, in both ears.

The process of creating this game involved rapid prototyping, extensive user testing, as well as sound design, and HTML, CSS and JavaScript.

UFO Sightings in North America


This interactive installation utilizes data visualization done in Processing, as well as projection, to display a data set of UFO sightings in North America from 2000-2013.

Each circle represents a UFO sighting: the location of the circle is based on the longitude and latitude of the reported sighting, while the size of the circle represents the duration of the sighting. As the user steps on a specific circle, a projection on the celing is triggered. The user must look up to read further information about the UFO sighting.

UFO Chase 


This installation tells the story of the 1966 Portage County UFO Chase, where a policeman followed a UFO from Ohio to Pennsylvania.

The story is broken up into multiple easily-digestable segments, each of which are displayed through projectors placed at various distances from the wall. Sheets of paper are suspended from the ceiling and visitors are asked to pull each paper down. Each projection is set up to appear out of focus on the wall, but pull into focus when it hits the sheet of paper, allowing the story to be read.

Catharsis Orb

This speculative object was inspired by the following randomly drawn The Thing from The Futurecards:

(1) Arc - Discipline, A Century
(2) Terrain - Education
(3) Object - Event
(4) Mood - Sadness

After many iterations of the story behind the object, the Catharsis Orb came to be.

Imagine a highly disciplined society a century from today where citizens are forbidden from expressing negative emotions in public. Instead, they must release any negative emotions in a controlled manner and a private setting. Starting in schools as a group event and eventually becoming a private matter with age, Catharsis is essentially a guided meditation on sadness. Each person receives a government-issued Catharsis Orb which facilitates this by guiding the user through releasing negative emotions.

In its idle state, the Catharsis Orb blinks white. Once the user holds it with both hands, it lights up blue. Audio and visual projection are triggered to guide the user through releasing their sadness.
